August 6, 2020
Shirley Irene Livingston (Stevenson), age 93, slipped quietly from this life on August 6, 2020 in East Lawrencetown NS with family by her side.
Born in Wolverton, Ontario, she was the eldest daughter of the late Robert & Lillian (Chattington) Stevenson. Shirley is survived by her husband C. Bruce Livingston, NS; daughters Barbara & Raymond Victor, NS & Patricia Livingston, Alberta; brothers, Douglas Roy & Jeanne Stevenson, Manitoba, Jim & Ruth Stevenson, NB; Jack & Heather Stevenson, Alberta ; sisters Jean Salway, ON, Eloise Stevenson, ON & Gail & John Ashby, ON; brothers-in-law Nick Biljetina ON, Murray & Lorraine Livingston, ON and Robert (Lucy Hagen) Livingston, ON; nine grand-children, twenty-one great grand-children and one great-great grandson. Shirley was pre-deceased by her son James Livingston (Dale Dostaler), her daughter Marilyn Mattson, her sisters Audrey & Floyd Fitzgerald, June & Robert Lewis, Harry Salway, Lillian Stevenson (in infancy), Marlene Stevenson & Kirk Biljetina, her mother & father-in law Julia & Percy Livingston, her in-laws, Betty & Henry Boterberg, Kenneth Livingston and Ross (Pat Melmine-Livingston) & sister-in-law Lenore Livingston.
Shirley and Bruce were married for nearly 74 years. Shirley lived 13 years in NS (Shearwater, Dartmouth and East Lawrencetown) and 49 years in BC (Sidney, Ladysmith, Abbotsford, Kamloops and Sooke) and southern Ontario during her youth. Shirley & Bruce settled in Sooke BC for 30 of the past 32 years and loved their life creating beautiful gardens, fishing salmon in the Strait of Juan de Fuca and making a welcoming home for all their family & friends to visit. Shirley was devoted to keeping her large family connected and spent many hours and days every month writing letters and sending cards for birthdays, anniversaries, births & deaths to all her family and friends. She was devastated in 2013 when she lost her eyesight and could not continue this lifetime ritual, but she persevered and never complained. She was a woman of great personal strength and could be formidable, but at the same time with a tender touch and unconditional love for every child that crossed her path. She will be missed and lovingly remembered by all those who have held her dear.
We would like to extend a special thank you to all the wonderful caregivers who helped care for Shirley during the past two years in NS and two previous years in BC, enabling her to remain at home with her family.
