April 21, 1931 - February 6, 2022
On February 6, 2022 Sarah passed away peacefully while taking a nap.
Born in Saskatchewan to Raymond and Helen Sylvester, predeceased by her husband Ken, brothers, Allan, Johnny, Ernie, and sisters Mary and Clara.
Survived by sister Josephine, son Derek (Jacquie) and two granddaughters Cathryn and Sarah.
Sarah met the love of her life at an early age and was married in Saskatchewan. Soon thereafter the young couple loaded up their car and headed to Vancouver Island and made Campbell River their home.
Sarah worked for many years for Drs. Murphy and Hancock and finished her working portion of her life for Drs. Kamper and Leete.
Social life on the prairies was centered around fiddle dances and Sarah and Ken were well practiced dancers. Whenever there was an opportunity to waltz or polka Sarah was ready. The ability to glide over the dance floor stayed with her into her 80's.
A generous host, Sarah loved her immediate and extended family. She would make sure you were overfed and took a genuine interest in your life. With a large extended family, there was often someone visiting to enjoy the abundance of sports fishing opportunities in the 1970s and 80s.
Sarah enjoyed many different types of sports and was part of the founding membership of the Campbell River Curling Club and the Storey Creek Golf Society, serving on the initial board of directors for the latter. She was a key organizer and volunteer of numerous golf tournaments and possibly the record holder for the most aces at Storey Creek.
But without doubt what brought the most joy was having her granddaughters close by and being involved in their lives.
The family would like to thank Dr. Ramsay and the Alder Clinic for decades of generous care. There will be a private family service later in the spring. If you are so inclined, donations in memory of Sarah can be made to the Salvation Army or the Campbell River Hospital Foundation.
