We have lost our sister and friend with the passing of Sandra "Sandy" Bonner on April 8, 2019 at the age of 69. She was raised in Cobble Hill and lived in Powell River for the last 42 years. Sandra struggled with many diabetes related health issues since childhood but never gave in to those challenges. She was very proud that she received the 50+ year medal from Joslin Diabetes Research Center in Boston and the Eli

Lilly Canada Diabetic Journey 50 year award.

In her youth, Sandra enjoyed playing many sports, particularly badminton, swimming, distance running, softball and basketball. She was one of the first members of the CVAC Track and Field team in Duncan. After moving to Powell River, she had her own successful bookkeeping and secretarial business which she ran for many years. Later in life, she enjoyed working on her computer and designing many beautiful and comical greeting cards. Sandra liked collecting antiques and dolls, and always enjoyed stopping for a cup of coffee.

Sandra met the love of her life, Brian Rawluk, (deceased) while working in Powell River and together they enjoyed fishing, gardening and travelling.

Sandra was particularly close to her brother Frank and wife Nancy, nephews Trevor (Liz) and Scott (Melina). She is also survived by her brother Ken (Margot), niece Michelle (German) and their children, and niece Stephanie. She will be dearly missed by her good friends Karin, Teena, Sharon and Lois. The family would like to thank the medical teams and the many support workers in Powell River for all the help they gave Sandra over the years. No service at Sandra's request. In lieu of flowers, a donation to Diabetes Canada would be gratefully appreciated.
