April 4, 1946 - December 16, 2021
Sandy was born in London England to Peggy and Harry Croucher. Sandy enjoyed a childhood spent playing sports and taking family trips to Whitstable and Switzerland. Sandy completed post-secondary education to become a teacher and shortly after married her first husband Ray. Sandy emigrated to Canada in the 1969, settling in West Vancouver where she taught at Hillside Secondary School. Sandy gave up teaching to raise her two boys however teaching, coaching and sports were always a large part of her life. In 1994, Sandy and her second husband Jim moved to the Comox valley to enjoy a slower pace of life. Sandy spent her time playing golf, hiking, painting, gardening, travelling, fishing, and volunteering at MARS Wildlife Rescue Centre. MARS allowed her to do what she loved, teaching children all around Vancouver Island about the local wildlife. She also took up writing articles for the local paper about the birds she loved so much.
Sandy was an extremely caring and compassionate person that brought light to all those she met with her smile and happy nature. She will be missed by all those who knew her, including those she has left behind, sons Austen (Karen), Jonn (Marie-Josée), granddaughters Sadie and Asha, and sister Sue (Bruce). Sandy passed away peacefully with family by her side and is now soaring with her beloved eagles.
The family would like to thank all of those that helped care for Sandy over the past five years as she battled Lewy Body Dementia. It was comforting to know that she was in such good hands, being cared for in such a kind and compassionate way. We don't know what we would have done without Marie, Michelle, Jenna, Sharon and the others that not only enabled her to live at home as long as possible, but also cared for her like family. We would also like to thank all of the amazing people in the Oceanview wing at the Views (including Joey) for caring for her during this final stage of her life. We would finally like to thank her dear friend Danielle for being there for her and for us during these last 5 years. In lieu of flowers we would ask that you make a donation to MARS Wildlife Rescue Centre in her name. A small family gathering will be held in the new year.
