GONE FISHING!
It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Sam Stanko. Sam passed peacefully on May, 29, 2021 at Queen Charlotte Hospital.
He leaves to mourn his loving wife Sylvie, children, Debbie (Michael), Denise, Sam Jr. (Tammy), 5 grandchildren, Brad (Krista), Melissa, Kevin, Kellie, Scott, Chris and 3 great grandchildren, Natalie, Colton and Hudson, his sisters Betty and Elsie and numerous nieces and nephews.
Sam was born in 1939 in Maple Creek, Saskatchewan. At a young age he moved to Vancouver Island. He soon started his career as a welder/ mechanic with MacMillan Bloedel at Copper Canyon.
In 1973 he moved his family to Haida Gwaii. He worked with MacMillan Bloedel for over 35 years until his retirement.
Sam enjoyed many years camping, fishing the rivers and oceans and exploring the beaches of Haida Gwaii.
