Ruth Margolis passed away unexpectedly two months before her 90th birthday.  Her children were at her side.

Ruth had an incredible life journey. It began in her birthplace of Trinidad and continued through her RN training in the United States, to working as a nurse in Montreal, where she met her great love and future husband, Dr. Leo Margolis, OC, with whom she raised four children in Nanaimo, BC.

Ruth was a proud graduate of St. Mary's School of Nursing at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. Her college motto, "Enter in to learn - go forth to serve", infused her life.

An outspoken advocate for traditional education, Ruth served with passion on the Nanaimo School Board for eight years. Ruth was a talented bridge player (she once made a rare perfect hand in competitive play), an avid sports fan (who served as President of the Nanaimo Amateur Football Association) and an astute political observer (who relished a lively debate). Ruth's quick wit, beautiful smile and engaging laugh will be greatly missed by her loving friends and large family.

Predeceased by her beloved husband, Leo, Ruth will always be in the hearts of her children Rhonda (Ty), Robert (Glenda), Murray (Susan) and Conrad (Sue) and her cherished grandchildren Zachary, Leah, Taro and Hannah, the joys of her life.

Ruth's memory will be dearly held by her surviving siblings, Eddy (May) Lall, Sita (Ken) Holroyd, and Lenny Lall and their families.

No service by request. A private family gathering will be held at a later date.
