Roy Harding

January 24, 2022
We celebrate the life of Roy, beloved husband, father, grandpa, uncle and friend who died on January 24th at Sidney Care Home where he spent his last few years due to dementia. Until the end, Roy treasured his daily visits from Alixe, his wife, reminiscing about his early life in England. He remained a loud and loyal Manchester United fan.
Roy was born in Nantwich, England, in 1936. He loved his hometown and tried to share it with everyone. He was one of thirteen children and is survived only by his youngest brother, Kenny. Roy’s children from his first marriage – Julie, Barry, Donna and Deborah, still reside in England along with many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. The youngest, Michelle (Adrian) moved to Canada and live on the mainland. Roy remarried in 1976 in Canada and he and Alixe had one daughter, Kristie (Matt) who have two children – Milan and Levi, whom Roy cherished.
Roy was an electrician for most of his life, a trade he greatly loved. After retiring, he was a Commissionaire in Nanaimo, handing out parking tickets. He did this with kindness and a sense of humor. When this ended, Roy became the maintenance man for the Nanaimo Ecumenical Center. This also suited his personality. He loved being part of the church’s community, often joking that he went to church every day except Sunday.
Roy was a good person who loved his family, his work and all the friends he made along the way. He will be deeply missed. We want to thank Dr. Seong, Allison Marshall and all the wonderful staff at Sidney Care home for the thoughtful care and attention they gave Roy. He enjoyed making them smile, always calling the ladies “Lovey” and asking for cups of tea. They teased him in return.
Roy did not want a service but simply that we raise a glass of rum to him and wish him well on his journey.
