Ronald RW (Ron) Kinney

Ron was born on October 18, 1933 and passed away in Ladysmith B.C. on October 8, 2020. He is survived by his wife Shirley (nee Alguire), three children: Kevin, Randa (Ralph) and Philip (Tanya), three grandchildren and four great grandchildren and brother Dr Gary Kinney.
Ron was a professional Town and Country Planner, specializing in small towns. He was the first General Manager of Parkland Regional Development Inc. headquartered in Dauphin Manitoba. He worked in private practice and for government. Mid-Career he was asked to join the University of Alberta Faculty of Extension and retired in 1992 as Director of Applied Science and Technology. He held degrees from three universities (Manitoba, Alberta and St. Francis Xavier) and was a member of the Canadian Institute of Planners.
Ron served as a consultant in many parts of the world, often taking Shirley with him. They lived in Tanzania Africa for six months.
Ron and Shirley were active square and round dancers. During his retirement, Ron was an active volunteer in organizations including Community Policing, Coast Guard, Ladysmith Thrift Store and the local Probus Club.
Ron loved classical music and served on the board of the Cowichan Symphony Society, including president for two years. He was the first Chairman of the Saltair Planning Commission. Until recently, he was a Member of the Ladysmith design Panel, a town appointment, where for the last few years, he was elected Chairman. Ron was an active walker, especially along the Trans Canada Trail in Saltair.
