July 29, 1934 - June 17, 2022
In loving memory ~
Ron was called to his heavenly home on June 17, with his loving family by his bedside.
He was predeceased by his parents, John and Frances, and his sister Dorothy.
He will be dearly missed by Muriel, his wife of 62 years, daughters Melanie Zimmer and Lisa Travers (Dave), step-grandchildren Jessica and Evan Travers, brother-in-law Bill Thatcher, sisters-in-law Irene Cox (Bob) and Vera Haskett (Dennis), and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Ron was born in Vancouver, BC on July 29, 1934, and moved to the Comox Valley with his family when he was five years old.
During his childhood, he met Bill Gallaway and the two boys quickly became lifelong best friends, enjoying countless hours of fishing and hunting together.
Ron's love of cars led him to his first job in the parts department at Seale and Thompson. After that, he became manager of the parts departments at Nib Johnston Motors, and then at Mike Finneron Pontiac Buick. General Motors awarded him with several trips throughout his career for top performance and acknowledged him upon his retirement for an exemplary 43 years of service.
Ron met the love of his life, Muriel, and they were married in 1959. They were blessed with two daughters, Melanie and Lisa. Ron was a loving and devoted husband and father. He was known for his generous and kind spirit. He had a quick wit, a warm smile, and was always ready to help others whenever he could.
Ron was a charter member of Faith Lutheran Church, in Courtenay, serving on council continuously for 63 years, in several executive positions.
Ron was also an incredible gardener. He shared the bounty of his hard work with extended family, friends, neighbours, and with the community by donating his produce to the Food Bank.
In their retirement, Ron and Muriel enjoyed travelling. He especially enjoyed time in Mexico in the winter.
Ron led a vibrant and energetic life, and faced cancer with optimism, grace, and courage. Throughout his journey, he received excellent care from many people. The family would like to thank his medical team, Dr. S. Nap, Dr. C. Fibich and Dr. M. Smit, together with his naturopathic team, Dr. G. Parmar and Dr. C. Kind, who helped extend his quality of life. Ron's wish to remain at home was made possible by an amazing group of dedicated nurses and home support workers, whom he loved, and we cannot thank enough! He was also lovingly supported by Pastors Kreusel, Rumsch, and Dudiak.
A Memorial Service will be held for Ron on July 23, at 1:00 pm at: Faith Lutheran Church 1688 McPhee Avenue Courtenay, BC.
The family thanks everyone for their prayers, love, and support. If you wish to make a donation in Ron's memory, please consider: Comox Valley Hospice Society or Canadian Red Cross Equipment Loan Program.
