January 24, 1937 - May 2, 2022
In loving memory ~
Ron was a lifelong athlete and Leafs fan, a hockey player, paddler (1958 Dominion Champion), curler and golfer. He was an independent businessman, a proud father, grandfather and great grandfather, a dog lover, and a loyal, long term friend to many.
Ron loved meeting people and sharing stories; he was a true raconteur. He grew up in Lachine, Quebec, where he met Kathy at Lachine High School in 1955, and throughout his life had an uncanny knack for discovering Lachine connections.
Ron spent most of his working years in Ottawa before moving west in 1999 to enjoy a happy retirement in Parksville, BC. He was an active member of PGOSA for many years and for 15 consecutive years was an enthusiastic participant in the annual World Snoopy Hockey Tournament in Santa Rosa, California.
Ron was predeceased by his son Kevin in 1962, and is survived by the love of his life, Kathleen Legrove (nee Goodwin) whom he married in 1959. He is also survived by his daughter Rhonda, son-in-law Billy Garton, grandchildren Jack (Jenn), Kelly (Ben), Christian (Katie) and great grandchildren Raven, Malakai, Elijah and Hunter.
Ron passed peacefully, with Kathy at his side. He specifically wanted to thank Dr. Robert Waite for his care over many years.
A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, May 18th, 2pm. at Yates Memorial Chapel, 1000 Allsbrook Rd. Parksville, BC.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Manna Homeless Society, Box 389, Errington, BC.
