Ronald Allan Hudspith

In loving memory ~

Ronald Allan Hudspith passed away peacefully on December 19th, 2024. Ron is survived by his devoted wife of 58 years, Sadie and beloved sister-in-law Diana and brother-in-law Fouad. He was a proud father of Richard and Maria, loving father-in-law to Deb and adoring grandfather to Dylan.

Ron was born in Bolivia and overcame significant adversity in early life, later working to put himself and his siblings through university. He trained as a teacher, and taught math and coached basketball in Europe, Alberta and BC. His time at Shawnigan Lake School continued to be meaningful to him, and he was fondly remembered and visited by former students until his final days. In the last chapter of his career, he drew upon his innate sensitivity and tender-heartedness in his role as a counsellor at Cowichan Secondary. He was widely regarded as an exemplary teacher and mentor.

Ron fell in love with Sadie at first sight and over time, they built a wonderful life together, raising two kids, socializing and travelling with friends and family, participating in community groups and supporting people in need through various charitable activities. He was always quick with a joke and loved to putter and fix things, garden and bird watch. Most of all, he loved to be with his family.

Ron's family thanks the staff at the Hamlets who provided loving and compassionate care for Ron over the last four years.

A celebration of life will be held at the Cowichan Golf and Country Club on Saturday, January 11th at 1 pm.
