November 21, 2019
1954 - 2019 ~ It is with great sadness that we announce the loss of Robert "Bob" Dean who passed away suddenly on November 21, 2019. Bob is survived by Sue Dean, his wife of 37 years, daughter Stephanie Stromquist (Spencer), son Nigel Dean (Maria), and brother Geoff Dean (Colleen). As well as his brother and sister-in-laws, Alan (Linda), Chris (Lisa) and Brad (Diane) Cue. He was the proud grandfather of Emmett Stromquist and Rylan Macey, with two more grandchildren on the way, and a proud uncle to Tara (Kevin) and Sierra Dean, and Evan, Jake, Riley, Jamie Lee, and Jordan Cue. Bob was also lucky to have 2 great nieces, Avery and Kaia Dean.
Bob was born in Newcastle-on-Tyne, England, and came to Canada when he was two years old, actually arriving in North Vancouver on Sue's birth date! After living for a few years in North Vancouver, the family spent 10 years living in the San Jose area of California where Bob played many sports, developed his love for basketball and football, and became an avid Oakland Raiders fan. He and his family returned to North Vancouver for his grade 12 year where he became the North Shore Senior High School Basketball MVP of the Year. He lived there until he moved to Nanoose Bay in 1979 to help his parents, Frank and Connie, build their retirement home. After having met briefly at Capilano College, Bob and Sue met again in North Vancouver in 1980, and married in 1982. They enjoyed living in that ocean-view home in Nanoose until his parents retired to the island. Bob and Sue bought their first home on Corfield in Parksville and the family adventure began ~ Stephanie was born in '88 then Nigel in '93. Bob's love for his children will live on forever!
Over the years, Bob worked in real estate, for a concrete supply company and later as a care-aide at the facility where his mum was living. In his free time, Bob loved being with his family, playing and coaching various sports. For many years, he coached both the girls' and boys' basketball teams at Ballenas Secondary School, including the teams his son, Nigel and his daughter, Stephanie were on. He enjoyed watching Stephanie throughout her years in soccer and watching Nigel play lacrosse. He also enjoyed playing golf with Sue and his friends in our community.
Bob was a well-loved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, father-in-law, coach and friend. He will be missed by many.
A celebration of his life will be held on Sunday, December 8, from 1 - 4 pm at the Bayside Restaurant, Parksville, BC. In honour of Bob's typical dress code, shorts and sandals for the men are requested.
