Robert Malcolm Forbes

February 9, 1954 – December 18, 2022
In Loving Memory ~
Robert Malcolm Forbes passed away at the age of 68 on December 18th, 2022, in Victoria, B.C.
Rob is survived by his wife Coral (Greaves) and his three children, Elliot (Jenice), Heather (Chris) and Kelly (Tim) and two grandchildren, Everett and Maeve.
Rob was born on February 9th, 1954, in Vancouver, B.C. and raised on Lasqueti Island. Throughout his life, Lasqueti remained one of Rob’s most cherished places. It was where Rob met his wife Coral of 43 years, and where Rob taught his children, nieces, and nephews to jig for shiner perch with nothing more than a piece of kindling and fishing line.
Rob started commercial fishing at a young age. As captain of the Lasqueti Isle, he travelled the B.C. coast in search of salmon and herring.
After retiring from fishing, Rob started a small excavator business, digging many ditches and septic fields for his neighbours in Merville, B.C.
However, his love for the ocean never faded. Late in life, Rob was happiest aboard his sport fishing vessel, Bozzy, searching for salmon and sharing his bounty with friends and family.
Rob was a member of Comox Valley United Soccer Club for many years. Although a small man, Rob was a big presence on the pitch. He excelled as a central midfielder who could proudly kick the ball with both feet – a skill he passed along to his children and to the many young players he coached.
Rob was a faithful fan of Liverpool FC and was known to quote their slogan “Never walk alone” to his children during tough times.
The Forbes family would like to thank the staff at Victoria General Hospital who cared for Rob during his final days.
There will be an open house on Saturday, February 11th, from 2:00-4:00 p.m. at the Merville Community Hall, 1245 Fenwick Rd., Merville, B.C.
Flowers are gratefully declined. If you wish to make a donation in Rob’s memory, please consider the Tsolum River Restoration Society (http://www.tsolumriver.org/).
