October 18, 1938 - August 30, 2019
It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved Father, Husband, Papa, Brother, Uncle and most amazing man, Robert Hartl, on Friday, August 30, 2019 after a short battle with leukemia.
Bob, as he liked to be called, is survived by his wife Barb; sons: Terry (Goldie), Ken (Bonnie); daughter Debbie (John); stepchildren: Shelley (Tim), Roy; grandchildren: Dustin, Sonia, Tina; step grandchildren: Tony, Scott; brother Pete (Helen); along with many nieces, nephews, extended family and lots of friends. Bob was predeceased by his first wife Shirley and brother Glen. Bob was born in Victoria on October 18, 1938 and grew up on a farm in Shawnigan Lake where he learned the lesson of hard work. He tried his hand at a few jobs till he ended up in the forest industry. He worked many years on the road crew operating a rock drill and blasting before eventually operating a grader. He loved operating a grader until he retired in 2002. He spent many happy years on the lake, boating and fishing with friends and family. As a young man he volunteered for the Shawnigan Lake Fire Department. Bob was always willing to lend a helping hand to friends and neighbours when they needed help. Bob's hobbies included fishing, watching NASCAR, and model trains. He belonged to a model train club where he made many new friends. Bob will be sorely missed by many family and friends.
As per Bob's request, no formal service will be held. There will be an open house on Sunday, September 8, 2019. Please contact Barb or Shelley for further information.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Bob's honour may be made to the Cancer Research Society, cancerresearchsociety.ca. Condolences may be offered online at www.sandsduncan.ca.
