Robert Daniel (Bob) White

1925 - October 19, 2017

Bob died peacefully in his sleep in Nanaimo on October 19 after suffering a stroke.

He was pre-deceased by his wife of 68 years, Doris, and daughter, Robin. Survived by his children Lee, Glen, Carol (Reg); son-in-law Pete; dear friend Kathy; sister Nona; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.

Born in Biggar, Saskatchewan, Bob came to Vancouver Island after two years in the RAF. He met the love of his life, Doris, in Port Alberni and they raised their family there, and later in Burnaby and Alabama, as he moved through a 35 year career in management with MacMillan Bloedel which he loved every step of the way.

Bob was always a free spirit, loved life, and was loved by many. He was a real people person who looked for the best in everyone, and he always enjoyed a good party. He was an advocate of lifelong learning, made sure his children had the opportunity for a higher education, and in his younger days served on the Alberni school board.

He loved his boats and pulling kids around on water skis and boards. In retirement he enjoyed golfing, sports (especially the Alabama Crimson Tide), and the casino.

He travelled extensively with a last trip to Belize at age 91. He loved music, especially the blues, and played a mean harmonica.

He wanted his ashes "spread out so my spirit can roam free as I have always done - not on water as I was never a good swimmer!"

He was one of a kind and will be missed. So please raise a glass and play some blues (or Johnny Cash!) for a life well lived, full of love, laughter, and adventure.

There will be a private family celebration of his life.
