February 10, 1926 - February 15, 2022
It is with sadness that Bob's Siblings, Jim Torrie and Pat Hughes, as well as his Honorary Niece Vanessa Izon, announce his passing on Feb. 15th, 2022. Bob was raised in Tofield AB, and learned from his parents Arthur and Edna Torrie the arts of compassion, hard work and ingenuity.
Bob served in the Royal Canadian Navy between 1944 and 1946. Once the war was over, Bob developed his many skills working in varied occupations over the years. He fell in love with the BC Coast while working in Logging Camps in Haida Gwaii, and settled in Ladysmith in the late 1960's.
Bob was always there for his many friends and family members, travelling in his free time to visit, always ready to offer his handyman skills and cheeky humour without hesitation. Bob's other passions were reading, photography, travelling worldwide to research the history of Steam Trains, and a good game of Scrabble.
"Mr. T" was a proud Member of the Royal Canadian Legion #171 Ladysmith for over 57 years, where he had a Black Belt in collecting friends. He would come in for a glass of beer and challenge everyone to figure out what the latest gadget he had created was. Along with his sense of humour, his steadfast belief that suspenders were fashionable could be counted on.
Bob was predeceased by his Mother and Father, Sisters, Ruth and Jean.
Surviving Siblings include his Brother, Jim (Ursula) Torrie of Nanaimo, and Sister, Pat Hughes of Millet AB. As well there are many Nieces and Nephews who will miss their Uncle Bob's visits, jokes, stories, and his incredible kindness.
A celebration of Bob's life will be held at the Royal Canadian Legion #171 Ladysmith, on May 28th at 1pm.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Royal Canadian Legion #171 Ladysmith, or the Ladysmith Hospital Thrift Shop in his memory.
