December 21, 1934 - May 19, 2019
Robert passed away peacefully in the care of Ty Watson house on May 19, 2019 after a long battle with cancer. He was pre-deceased by his parents, Clifford Otis Nichols and Helga Joanna Nichols.
Robert was born on December 21, 1934 at Berwick, Nova Scotia and moved to Port Alberni in 1955 where he met and married the love of his life, Madeleine Carriere. They were married for over 61 years.
In the early 1970's Robert became very interested in stock car racing and demolition derbies. He owned and ran a stock car painted black and white that he named "Car 54". Many of us were often very entertained by his antics.
For most of his life he ran his own successful business of towing commercial fishing boats. He was well known. Once his small family moved out to the Beaver Creek area, Robert became very interested in the local wildlife and took great joy in seeing deer, rabbits, bears, raccoons, squirrels, and various birds in the yard, many who became tame.
In his later years he became interested in antique tractors and became a member of the Tractor Club often displaying his machines in parades and fairs.
He leaves behind his devoted wife, Madeleine, their son Clifton (Victoria) and the lights of his life, his two grandsons, Deklan and Kaeden. Robert will be sorely missed by his huge extended family and friends.
There will be no service by request. In honour of his memory, donations can be made to Ty Watson House in Port Alberni.
