In loving memory ~
Robert (Bob) Arthur Campbell died peacefully with family by his side on Tuesday February 28th, 2023 in Halifax, NS.
Bob was born on June 30th, 1926 in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan to Robert and Olga Campbell. He graduated from the University of Saskatchewan with a degree in Ceramic Engineering and later received a masters' degree in engineering from the University of Washington. Bob began his career in the brick industry in Lachute, Quebec, and Hawkesbury, Ontario, however, his father-in-law persuaded him to take a job in the forest industry.
He spent the rest of his career in this industry beginning in Ocean Falls on the central BC coast. Although he would live there only a few years, the friendships he made there lasted a lifetime. The rest of his 30 year career was spent with BC Forest Products/Fletcher Challenge in their mills at Crofton and MacKenzie and in the head office in Vancouver.
When he wasn't working, Bob enjoyed an active lifestyle and being in the outdoors. He loved his Super-Seniors' ski pass with Whistler-Blackcomb and skied until he was 90; he was an avid golfer and curler into his 90's; he was one of the regulars at the Cowichan Community Centre's pool and gym; he was a lifelong fisher- enjoying the fish he caught almost as much as the time spent with his friends catching the fish. Bob was a member of the Vancouver Island Retriever Club and participated with his family as a competitor, marshal and a judge for many years.
Throughout his life, Bob always had dogs and he could be seen walking them on the streets and trails in the Cowichan Valley. As well, he volunteered as a dog walker for the Duncan SPCA. Bob loved to travel- whether to experience new places and people or to visit his regular haunts and old friends. Skiing in Canada and Europe often competed with the beaches of Hawaii.
Bob is predeceased by his wife, Shirley, and daughter, Debbie. He is survived by his son, Glenn, daughter-in-law, Renée, his grand-daughters Elise and Laodiki, and his close companion of 17 years, Reen Lloyd.
Bob lived a full, good life and his humor, enthusiasm and generosity will be missed.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Duncan SPCA. Per Bob's request, there will not be a funeral.
There will be a get together for a remembrance of his life at his son's house in Dartmouth on Saturday March 11th and a second in Duncan on June 30th.
