April 14, 1931 - February 7, 2023
Richard, known to many as Dick, passed away peacefully with his family at his side. Richard was the beloved husband of Plessa Gladys, predeceased, and loving father of Plessa Eleanor (Dwight) and John Stephen (Diane). Later in life, Dad met Mireille Kendrick, predeceased, mother of Roxanne, and they shared many special years together. Special Grandpa to Stephen Richard, Samantha, Amanda, Plessa Maria, Daniel and Keanna. Dear son of the late William and Eleanor Logan, and brothers George and Stephen. Survived by his sister Beverly and numerous nieces and nephews.
Dad was born in Ottawa. His early years were spent growing up in the Glebe where he graduated from Ottawa Technical School distinguished for his artistic abilities. After attending the Ford Motor School in Windsor, Dad moved back to Ottawa. With a flair for advertising, Dad designed many logos, billboards and window art (Copper Tone, Toy World) and the artwork for political cartoons that were featured in the Ottawa Citizen. He was also chosen by the Canadian government to design a plaque that was gifted to Queen Elizabeth for the Queen's silver jubilee in 1977. While establishing Trailblazers Magazine, Dad became involved in the printing business and freelanced his artistic talents. Painting and drawing, which remained lifelong passions, sidelined his work in typesetting and magazine design. After careers as art director for Chatelaine Magazine, Legion Magazine and the Canadian Pharmaceutical Association, Dad retired to a life of leisure. He and Mireille enjoyed trips south of the border in the winters and at White Lake in the summers. During his final 8 years of life, Dad resided in Campbell River, British Columbia with his daughter. Dick loved Campbell River for its natural beauty, friendly community and support for the arts.
Dick's family would like to say a very special thank you to the staff at Evergreen Senior's Home. To find such a loving and compassionate home for one's final years is a true blessing.
