On July 28th, 1942 Richard Robert Brooke (Rick) Shaw was born in Victoria, and on November 7th, 2018 he died at the Saanich Peninsula hospital. In his 76 years, he led a remarkable life, loved and admired by many. He learned from his father how to be resourceful with his hands and his brains. He took being a "family man" literally, raising two daughters, Lori and Leah, with his wife of 52 years, Lesley. The values he acted on through his daily actions were; taking care of and loyalty to family, hard work, and respecting all creatures great and small.

In the early years, Rick worked as a high-rig logger, often climbing a hundred feet high. He later trained to be a heavy-duty mechanic and used these skills for his career, and on his many motorcycles. He shared his passion for riding with everyone in his life, but especially his grandchildren (Noah, Myles, Colby, Erik, Madeleine, and Savannah). He taught them all to enjoy the outdoors: hiking, camping, boating, even SCUBA diving. Richard built the homes his family lived in, in his spare time, and renovated the buildings on his grandfather's land in Saanich where he lived for most of his life.

People who knew Rick knew his sense of humour, his generosity, his wit, and his passion for life and his family. He would always have a story to tell, a squash he grew to share, his time, his hand, or even some money to lend. Rick was an exemplary husband, father, papa and friend. A celebration of his life will be held Saturday November 17th, 12 pm - at Gateway Baptist Church - 898 Royal Oak Ave.
