September 11, 1926 – March 12, 2021
Larry Rumsby, born in Jordan River on September 11, 1926, a lifetime resident of the Sooke area, passed away at Ayre Manor in Sooke, BC, at the age of 94, on Friday March 12, 2021.
He lived his first three years of his life in Jordan River, BC, before moving to a seaside home in Saseenos, BC. Larry considered Jordan River his hometown and spent many Sunday afternoons driving out to Jordan River with his wife, Betty, to watch the surfers, walk on the beach and check on the old homestead.
Larry is predeceased by sister, Joan Zipp, brother Bill, and sister- in-law, Kathryn. He is survived by his loving wife of 69 years, Betty, & 7 children; Lorna, Stephen (Michelle), Peter (Debora), Christopher (Susan), Maureen (Boh), Brian (Laura) and Karen (Reece).
Also survived by 11 grandchildren; Robin (Dan), Zachary, Rebekah, Scott, Travis, Lance, Sean (Meagan), Chelsea (Reece), Leland, Jennifer (Chris) & Kaitlyn; & 5 great grandchildren; Vienna, Hope, Ledger, Kylee & Knox.
Larry, an electrical contractor, ran his own business, Rumsby Electric, partnered with his brother Bill – to date, the longest running business in Sooke history. He was a life-time active participant at St. Rose of Lima Church with a passion for ecumenism.
Larry was very active in his Community; All Sooke Day, Sooke Legion, Sooke Museum and was a strong advocate for T’Souke First Nation. Larry had a passion for people! He enjoyed many outdoor activities; exploring, camping, biking & boating, and in his younger days, was an avid, accomplished badminton player and enjoyed a spin or two around the dance floor.
A private Memorial Service, with Catholic Mass, will be held Saturday, March 27, 2021 at 1 pm.
