December 21, 1934 - April 26, 2021
We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of the Lewers patriarch - Richard "Dick" Grant Lewers on April 26, 2021 at age 86. Dick was born in Edmonton on December 21, 1934 to Jack Mantle Lewers and Mary Elizabeth Lewers (née Grant).
He had many adventures throughout his life and always had stories to tell. He will be remembered as a fearless entrepreneur, ready and willing to try any new venture, an intelligent and witty storyteller, a political activist, a poet, a history buff, a lover of westerns and crosswords, and a hater of snakes. He is survived by his beloved wife and hero of 49 years, Ellen Lewers, without whom he'd have never made it this far; sons Richard Lewers (Janet), Derek Lewers (Melissa Curtis), and Tim Lewers (Autumn); sister Jackie LePage (Jerry); grandchildren Jamie, Stefan, Taylor (Richard and Janet), Mathew and James (Tim and Ericka), Grant and Jordan (Derek and Nikki) and Sunny (Tim and Autumn); six great-grandchildren, many nephews and nieces, and his cat "Winston". He is now reunited with his canine best friend "Oliver" who we lost only 2 weeks prior.
In lieu of flowers, take heed of Dick's poem below, and give the gift of goodwill toward your fellow man. He was truly a man of sound wisdom.

The Gift

The gift of life is free to all
So open your heart to answer the call,
To the call of help in a time of need
Or listening to God and obeying His creed.
For life in itself is structured on giving
As God gave His son for everyone's living.
The Earth gives us food, the sun gives us light,
The clouds give us rain, and the moon gives us night. Giving is the key that will open all hearts,
It's the answer to life and was there from the start. So give all you can and the rewards will be yours,
It's God's promise to us and He's opened the doors.

-Richard Lewers (Jan 1990)
