Dave was born in Nanaimo. He was predeceased by his parents Richard and Hazel and his sister Joyce (Jim). He is survived by his wife of 19 years, Lynn; stepdaughter, Dawn (Geoff & Brodie); stepson, Darryl (Zach); sister, Sheila (Alvin - deceased) in Nanaimo; and brother, Jerry (Denise) from Kamloops.
Dave spent his entire life in the Nanaimo area, working at the Harmac Pulp Mill for 40 years, retiring in 2000 as a 3rd Class Stationery Engineer in the Steam Plant. He continued living in Yellow Point after retiring until moving to Parksville where he was living at the time of his passing.
Dave was very active in the Badminton club and became very proficient which resulted in him attending several of the BC Seniors games. At the games in Dawson Creek, he and his partner took home the Gold medal.
Dave loved fishing in the 'salt chuck'. When living in Yellow Point, salmon was always on the menu if you were staying for dinner. He loved nothing more than getting in his boat and heading out in front of his place to have fresh fish to cook. One of his most memorable trips was a day of fishing at Thrasher Rock with his Dad and brother.
Dave was into cars his entire life and was well known for his "hot" cars by everyone, including the local RCMP. He was involved with drag racing at the Cobble Hill drag strip and had a myriad of trophies to show for the many races. He was most excited about his Chev Impala '409' which won him the majority of his races. It clocked in at over 100 miles per hour!
Dave went from drag racing to Hot Rods. His first car was a 1955 Chev Belair 2-door hard top which he completely rebuilt. He then bought a Model A hot rod in which he and Lynn cruised the Island with friends who also had "hot rods". Dave sold the Model A and bought and rebuilt a 1955 Chev Cameo pick-up. He and Lynn spent a lot of time cruising with friends and attended car shows on the Island, throughout BC as well as south in the USA. Over the years of attending shows Dave's truck won many awards. In 2017, the truck was chosen as one of the top ten at the Mile Zero car show in Dawson Creek.
Dave and Lynn embarked on a month-long road trip in June to Saskatchewan, visiting friends and family along the way. He was looking forward to another season of 'cruising' with Lynn in the truck. Dave had many friends and will be missed by all who knew him.
