Richard passed away July 10th 2020 at the age of 88. He was born in the UK and came to Canada looking for a new life, in 1951. He asked his long term girlfriend Sheila to come and join him and they married on January 2, 1952. After making their way across the country they settled in the Lower Mainland. Richard was a talented fibre glasser, taught it in night school and built hard tops for racing cars. In 1972 Richard, his wife Sheila and sons Stephen and Robin moved to Goose Bay, Rivers Inlet as caretaker of the cannery. His love of fishing led to becoming a commercial salmon fisherman and building his gillnetter 'Red Witch' in the net loft of Goose Bay. Later he and son Robin built a 2 storey float home from materials taken after one of the cannery houses was demolished. The family moved to Coopers Cove, Magee Channel, Rivers Inlet in the 80's.
Richard also loved aviation and true to his character started to build his own plane, sometimes on the kitchen table!
Grateful thanks go to the staff of Alert Bay Long Term Care. They took care of him so wonderfully.
He leaves wife Sheila of 68 years, son Robin (Sarah), grand daughters Charlotte and Sandra, and 2 great grand sons.
