November 23, 1938 - May 7, 2021
Born in Saskatoon Sask., and adopted by Durrant & Elsie Scott (April 18th 1940) "Homesteaders" in Lilac Sask. The family moved several times with a final stop in Penticton where he was a rebel at Penticton High School.
He moved to Vancouver and after gaining his real estate investment credentials from UBC, his career carried him through all avenues of commercial mortgage & investment financing in both BC & Alberta. While with Yorkshire Trust he was proud to have arranged the financing for the infrastructure of Whistler Village - a massive undertaking at the time.
In 1967 Barrie met his soulmate - Ros, they married and travelled for a year including visiting new relatives in Australia. Their love of sports, travel and each other formed a lasting union of 52 happy years.
He gained many friends through his work, and was dedicated to ensuring all his clients were given the best service possible in investment process. Barrie always loved sports; played tennis, hockey, golf, cycled & was an avid skier and partnered in a cabin at Mt. Baker.
In 2006 the couple moved to Qualicum Beach on Vancouver Island, where they enjoyed a good 10 years of cycling, golfing and travel. They became "Snowbirds" for 10 of those years, spending their winters in Palm Springs area.
During Barrie's working years, at the age of 40 he was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes. Changes to diet and learning how to control his insulin & blood sugars allowed life to continued as normal for a further 43 years, barely missing a beat in the sports activities & travel.
The last 3 1/2 years were spent being taken great care of by his personal GP & diabetic specialist Dr. Claire Biglow and the staff at Qualicum Manor, for which we are extremely grateful.
His ability to quickly "sum a person up" and easily form lasting friendships, enjoy a party, accept practical jokes with laughter and enjoy the fun times will be sorely missed. "Let's have a beer"! Loved the twinkle in those pale grey eyes - will miss you so much Scotty.
Barrie leaves his wife Roselyn (nee Bignell), and his extended family by marriage living in Australia & Boston Ma.
