June 6, 1951 - May 13, 2020
I was born in 1951 and grew up in Yarrow BC on my parents' (George and Hilda) raspberry farm. My siblings (Rudy, Otto, Sherry and Barbie) were my mentors and my pals in our small town escapades.
After obtaining a Forestry Degree (BSF) from UBC I worked as a CUSO Volunteer in Malaysia. This formed the foundation of an international career. Working with CIDA and IDRC took me to over 45 countries.
In 1984 I met my number one item, Jan Norwood. Jan was well known in the international development community and being seen with her was definitely a plus. Our canoe camping trips in Algonquin Park gave us lots of special memories. Later we joined the BYNG Fish and Game Club which gave me a place to pursue my passion for fishing with people who became great friends.
On our retirement Jan and I moved to Duncan, and recently Chemainus, where we made new friends and enjoyed exploring the Cowichan Valley.
My struggles with cancer began in early 2018. A few days ago I checked out.
Thanks to all the medical staff who helped me along the way. Special thanks to Darla, the Manager and Owner of the Full-on Hostel. Goodbye to family and all my friends.
There will be no celebration of life. If you choose, a donation to an environmental cause of your choice would be appreciated.
