It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Raymond Steven Deptuck on September 24, 2018, after a long battle with Parkinson's.

Born in Saskatoon Saskatchewan, he was the 5th child of 11 for his late parents Helen and Steven Deptuck. After high school he headed to Vancouver, where he worked as the Head Teller at CIBC in 1959-60 and the Assistant Manager at the North Shore Credit Union from 1960-65. In 1966 he would marry his first wife Lynne and start a family with two sons. He would enter the world of insurance and eventually co-own Westport Insurance Agency and Dave Dale Insurance Agency in Grand Forks. Ray and Dave were good friends and the town of Grand Forks was a place where he would become very involved with the community. In the time he lived there, he was the president of the Gyro Club, the Secretary/Treasurer of the Boundary Museum Society, member of the Boundary Recreation Committee, President of the Chamber of Commerce, member of the Outdoor Club where he would meet his second wife Lila, President of the Minor Hockey Association, member of Kinsmen, hockey coach, and be Alderman for the city in 1985-86 and 1991-93. From there he would move to Creston, BC, where he would manage CRESCU/Herchmer Insurance Agencies until he retired in 2001.

During his "spare" time, Ray would golf, hike, camp, go fishing, run 6 miles before work, and take on huge projects like building swimming pools with roof-top solar heaters. One of his most challenging goals was to ride his bike from Saskatoon to Grand Forks to raise money for the aquatic centre. In 1981 he and his partner Mike Keogh cycled the 1265 km in just 9 days! They would average 100 miles a day. If you ever went for a walk with Ray, you would have quickly realized that he had a very different pace than most - you better have been in good shape!

Once he moved to Qualicum Beach, he golfed as much as possible, fished, and frequently went to garage sales on the weekend with his friend Gary. Ray is survived by his loving wife Lila; sons, Wayne (Lesli) and Blair (Arlene) Deptuck; and grandchildren, Hannah, Emelia, Steven, Sarah, and Lisa.

A Gathering to remember Ray will be held on Monday, October 15th, 2018 from 2:00 - 4:00 pm at, the Qualicum Beach Memorial Golf Club, 469 Memorial Avenue, Qualicum Beach.

For those who wish, donations may be made in Ray's name to Parkinson Canada: www.parkinson.ca.
