In loving memory ~
Born in Nanaimo in 1934 to Andrew and Edith Doumont. He was proud to be the son of a Nanaimo coal miner. He started school at Parksville in 1940 and returned to Nanaimo with his parents in 1955. In 1957 Ray married Lois MacLennan from Cedar. From 1958 to 1964 he worked at Westwood Funeral Home and then in 1965 he helped open Mount Benson Funeral Home on Wallace Street.
Ray retired from there as General Manager and part owner. He continued working as a locom Funeral Director in Squamish, Gibsons, Port Alberni and Parksville. In September of 2021 he decided it was time for him to retire his license as a Funeral Director/Embalmer. Ray is a past President of the British Columbia Funeral Association.
In 2013 the BCFA presented Ray and wife Lois with Honorary Life Memberships. In addition to his wife Lois, Ray is survived by his daughter Cindy, son Randy (Sandra), 2 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren, numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and his beloved cat Georgie.
Viewing will be on Wednesday September 28, from 6PM to 8PM at First Memorial Funeral Services, 1720 Bowen Road, Nanaimo.
Funeral service to be held at St. Andrews United Church, 311 Fitzwilliam Street in Nanaimo at 1:00 PM Thursday September 29 with Burial to follow at the Nanaimo City Bowen Road Cemetery. Flowers are gratefully declined, if friends so wish they may make donations to the charity of their choice
