It is with great sadness that we announce the untimely passing of our dear friend, Rande Halliday on Nov. 5th in Brandon, Manitoba.€
Rande was born in Vancouver on September 4, 1950. Soon after, he moved with his sister, Dianne and their parents, Merna & Lloyd Halliday to Nanaimo. They bought a house and property on Wilgress Rd. where Randy & Dianne grew up. Rande attended Dufferin Crescent & Princess Anne elementary schools and then Woodlands high school in Nanaimo as well as a brief period of time spent at Islay school in Vista, Manitoba in the fall of 1961.
Rande was always very athletic and played football on the Nanaimo Rams team as a pre-teen, although his favourite sport was most certainly tennis, which he played often throughout his life. Rande always had a great interest in the military and military riffles, so it was no surprise that in his late teens and early twenties, he spent some time with the Canadian Scottish Regiment Reserves in Nanaimo where he made some lasting friendships.
Rande started his working life in Nanaimo with the Nanaimo bottling company and then with Crown Zellerbach as a tree planter. He worked for Devlin Signs, Supreme Building Maintenance, AC Taxi and as a mail carrier for Canada Post.
Rande moved to Calgary in 1977 where he worked as a driver for CP Express, he worked for a while in a welding shop, worked for United Grain Growers and then drove cab in Calgary for many years.
Rande moved to Brandon, Manitoba in 2007 to join his mom, and his sister, Dianne when she was diagnosed with terminal cancer.
Rande was predeceased by his parents Lloyd and Merna and his sister, Dianne.
He is survived by his son, Jack, his niece, Miley and nephew, Kyle, their spouses & children, many Halliday cousins and family.
Rande also leaves behind a great number of friends in his hometown of Nanaimo, who have known him during various stages of his life, some since they were children. Friends, who will always love him and miss him greatly, but who feel truly fortunate to have had such a solid man as their friend.
A celebration of Rande's life will be held at the Departure Bay Kin Hut in Nanaimo on Sunday, Dec. 3, 2017 from 11:00 am - 3:00 pm.
