February 28, 1947 - August 21, 2022
In loving memory ~
Peter passed away suddenly but peacefully in the early morning on August 21, 2022. Wendy, Brent and Diane held his hands at his bedside as he passed at Nanaimo General Hospital from an unexpected brain bleed. Born February 28, 1947 in Vancouver to Jack and Marion Kellas (nee Turner), he grew up with older brother Steven (pre deceased). Married to Diane (nee Prittie) in 1971, the family was completed when twins Brent and Wendy came on the scene in 1978. He is survived by Diane, Brent, Wendy (Paul) and Pete's most precious grandson, William. He is also going to be missed by his brother's family; sister-in-law Sue, niece Leslie and her children, and nephew Alex (Marnie) and their children. Diane's family will be missing Uncle Pete as well, as he has been part of the Prittie clan for almost 55 years.
Pete graduated from Sir Winston Churchill High in 1965 and went on to get his Bachelor of Science (Forestry) from UBC, class of 1970. Working in the forest industry for much of his working life, he saw a great deal of BC from the top to the bottom of Vancouver Island as well as the Interior and the mainland coastal inlets. Moving to Qualicum Beach in 1984, he took an active part in the community including many of Brent and Wendy's sports, music, school, and dance activities until they finished high school. He then turned his focus to the Rotary Club of Qualicum Beach Sunrise. He held many roles in the club, including President in 2012/13 and attended nearly every event the club was involved in. Helping Diane in her real estate career, he soon was putting up signs for other realtors and transporting tents to lots of events as well as having an active role in the Qualicum Beach Chamber of Commerce over many years.
No service is planned as he did not want such, but sometime in the future, an informal gathering of family and friends will be planned. If anyone is so inclined, donations to the BC Children's Hospital, the Nanaimo Hospital Foundation, The Rotary Foundation, or Arrowsmith Search and Rescue would be appreciated as Peter supported all of these organizations. The support of family and friends has been outstanding since Peter left us so suddenly, and as a family, we really appreciate it.
