May 14, 1936 - March 2, 2020
On March 2, 2020, Peter Wallace Schroeder was called home to be with his Lord and Saviour. Peter lived his faith and it was obvious in everything he did. Peter was born on May14,1936, in Crooked Creek, Alberta. At age ten the family relocated to the Fraser Valley where Peter spent his youth on the family dairy farm. As a young man, he moved to Port Alberni where he met and married the love of his life Hannelore (Elinor) in 1960. Together they raised two sons, Alan and Ron.
Peter worked for MacMillan Bloedel for many years while owning and operating the local Pepsi Cola distributorship simultaneously. For a time Peter had his own excavation business contracting for MacMillian Bloedel and for the remainder of his working life he was employed by the Department of Highways.
The Schroeders were lifelong members at First Baptist Church in Port Alberni where Peter was actively involved in the music ministry and caring for the church and grounds. His love of music and fine tenor voice made him in demand as a soloist where he was part of many choirs and musicals within the community. For many decades, Peter entertained seniors at local care homes where he played his guitar and sang old time songs and hymns to residents.
Peter and Elinor shared their love of gardening, which was obvious at the home they built at Sproat Lake. Peter was predeceased by his beloved Elinor in 2017 and is survived by his elder son, Alan (Janey), step- grandchildren Matthew Bingham (Caitlin) and Laura Thiessen (Curtis), and five great-grandchildren, Sam and Seth, Ryan, Owen and Charlotte, all of Victoria, and his younger son Ron, (Belinda) of Salt Spring Island. Peter is predeceased by both his parents and by sister, Joan Rempel in 2012 (Jake), and is survived by sisters Ramona Falk (George), Dorothy Enns (Pete 2017), Shirley Warkentin (George), and Anita Klassen (Ed), as well as many nieces and nephews.
Peter was a kind and caring man, deeply loved by friends, family, and his church family. He will be greatly missed.
A special thank you to Bessie Brooks from the Schroeder family, for her friendship and kindness to Peter after the loss of his wife.
Due to circumstance, the Celebration of Life will be postponed until further notice.
