September 24, 1931 - August 17, 2020
Paul passed away on August 17, 2020 with his children by his side.
Paul was born in Zenon Park, Saskatchewan on September 24, 1931. He spent the first ten years of his life on a farming homestead in a French-Canadian community. In 1941, he moved to British Columbia with his parents and four brothers and eventually settled down in the Cowichan Valley.
He was a hard-working and ambitious young man. On March 13th, 1953 he married Margaret Witt and a life-long partnership and love story began. Paul and Marg had three children - Sherry (1954), Anne (1956) and John (1964).
Paul worked at various jobs in the forest industry but in 1965, he started his own business with his younger brother Lawrence - C and C Lath Mill. The lumber mill grew from a small backyard operation to a thriving lumber remanufacturing facility. It is still operational today.
Dad retired from the business in 1998. Paul and Marg (after retirement) were able to travel and enjoy their later years. They enjoyed living a River's Edge Community in Duncan for over 20 years. Marg passed away in 2014 and Dad missed her tremendously. Paul moved into Sherwood House Independent Living in 2018 and enjoyed his two years in that warm and caring community.
Dad was independent until the end and he will be greatly missed by friends and family.
Paul was preceded in death by his parents (Emile and Marie), two brothers (Albert and Arthur) and his wife (Margaret). He is survived by his three children (Sherry Olson, Anne Spalding and John Carpentier) and his brother, Lawrence.
He is also survived by four grandchildren (Kristy Costain, Deven Olson, Darren Olson, Robyn Carpentier) and their families. Paul had 14 great grandchildren.
He leaves behind a vast legacy. Many beloved nieces and nephews are included in this count.
Due to the present COVID conditions, there will be no Memorial Service at this time.
