Patrick Barry Dawson

I was born in Edmonton on 10 September 1935 and passed away in Comox on 8 October 2017.

I graduated in Pharmacy but went into education, working with Edmonton Public Schools as a teacher and administrator until retirement in 1992. I was blessed all my life in being able to have an enjoyable career and do all the things I ever wanted to do.

Spending 56 years with my wife and best friend, Liz, along with daughters, Karen and Jan, the grandchildren (Gareth, John, Katie, Abby), each of our relative families and our "extended family" made life worthwhile.

To our countless friends, colleagues, organizations and acquaintances, and all the activities associated with each of you, I say thank you for the richness you added to my life.

I ask that you sit quietly some time and, in spirit, we will have a farewell sip. God's blessings to you all, Pat.

The words above were written by Papa Pat himself in 2013. Not because he was ill or expecting to pass away any time soon, but because he was that organized! Anyone who knew our Papa Pat knows how much he valued meticulous planning and here we are, celebrating his life, with an already written obituary.

He even left blanks for us to fill in the location and date of his death. He died quickly and peacefully at home, three weeks after learning that he had cancer. We miss him already and love him forever.

In lieu of flowers, we invite you to make a donation to a cancer agency or charity of your choice.

We will celebrate Papa Pat's life in three places he loved: Comox United Church in Comox, BC (October 27 at 3 pm), Ottewell United Church in Edmonton, AB (November 4 at 3 pm), and Keawala'i Congregational Church in Maui, HI (December 16 at 10 am).
