May 7, 1931 - July 14, 2020
Ozzie Vezina, long-time resident of Port Alice passed away July 14, 2020 at the Eagle Ridge Manor, Port Hardy. Born to Octive and Isabel Vezina May 7, 1931, one of 9 children. He was predeceased by his mother and dad, brothers Dave, Ken (Victoria), Odie (Gladys), Melton and Frances, sisters Margaret Calder/Wardie, Hilda Castonguay (Ted), June Guarasi (Rudy) and Maxine Massaro (John).
Ozzie worked at his business Port Arthur Stucco and in Plastering Construction. He belonged to the Port Arthur Legion and Port Arthur Moose Hall where he was a bartender.
Ozzie had a great passion about hockey, coached a minor hockey team. Also coached broom ball and had a team. He belonged to the McIntyre Presbyterian Church and a Teen Town in the church basement.
We moved to Port Alice, BC in 1968 where he worked at the Port Alice Pulp and Paper Mill until retirement in 1996. He also had his own business, Rumble Beach Enterprises for several years. He started in the Port Alice Full Service RV Campground in 1986 and 1989, licensed dining room. Ozzie was instrumental in the building of the Port Alice Arena. Starting minor hockey and serviced as President for a time. Ozzie said any child that wanted to play hockey should be able to, no funds or not. He had dances to make up their fees.
He was involved with the Port Alice Blues hockey team as a trainer. He started commercial hockey and served as coach, and lastly Old Timers hockey. Ozzie was a long time member of the Port Legion and Golf Club. Was a member of the Port Alice Keenagers.
He also had a Teen Town. First at the Curling Club and at Ozzieland. He was a member of the Ocean View Christian Assembly.
Ozzie will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by his wife Retta of 63 years, his daughter Phyllis and son Dave. Grandchildren Harvey (Shania) Allanah and Annette. Great grandchildren Kaeden and Kassidy (Harleys). Grandson Tyler, many nephews and nieces.
As Ozzie's wishes, cremation will take place. No service. Donations in memory of Ozzie to the Liver Society or Heart & Stroke Foundation.
