It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Orest (Terry) Wedmedyk of Ucluelet, B.C. who left us suddenly on December 19th, 2022.
Terry is predeceased by his father George and mother Natalie (nee Hrebeniuk). They are all sorely missed.
Terry is survived by his brother Jerry; aunts Sonia Triska and Diane Szabo and many cousins in B.C. and Alberta.
Terry had a 32-year career with the Canadian Coast Guard beginning on the weather ships. When they were retired from service, he was moved to the Bull Harbor radio station (Hope Island) and then finally to Ucluelet (1984) where he found a permanent home and where he ended his career in 2011.
He served as a Watch Supervisor, Training Officer, and acting Officer in Charge and sat on many regional committees as well as the joint Canada-US committee.
Terry was affectionately known amongst his peers as "The Big O" and was respected for his knowledge, guidance, gentle demeanour and unparalleled sense of humour.
His passions in life were amateur radio (VE7CLO/VE7YW), music and caring for dogs.
Terry's friends and family wish to thank all the healthcare professionals in the community who gave him comfort and support in his final years.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, January 10th in Ucluelet.
