June 26, 1943 - October 10, 2022
In loving memory ~
We are heartbroken to share the passing of our husband, father and grandfather, Norman Stanly Fudali, of Port Alberni, BC, on October 10th, 2022, at 79 years of age.
Norm was born in Poplarfield, MB, on June 26th, 1943, to Annie and Michael Fudali, growing up in Winnipeg and spending a lot of time on the family farm, where he learned many skills alongside his dad (master carpenter) and uncles Pete and Mike (farmers), and shared in wonderful traditional home cooked meals prepared by his aunts Kay and Olga.
After graduating high school Norm worked for the Credit Union and Bank of Montreal in Winnipeg, MB, before transferring with the Bank of Montreal to Brandon, MB, and Port Alberni, BC thereafter, where he retired from his role as Bank Manager in 1997.
As a young man, Norm met and married Joan Gray, and together they had two children, Darrin (Colleen) and Kim (Greg). While working and living in Winnipeg, Norm and his young family enjoyed many years at their family cottage at Brereton Lake, MB.
In 1985 Norm met his life partner Sandra Sweeney (Daughter Lynne and husband Aaron Anderson and Son Jason and Wife Tannis), and together they set roots, first in Brandon, MB, and then in Port Alberni, BC in 1990, where they settled into their Sproat Lake home, which became a family vacation spot over the years.
Norm loved Vancouver Island and their beautiful lake home, but his greatest love of all was sharing it all with family and friends. He was the consummate fishing guide, waking in the wee hours of the morning to transport loved ones down the canal in search of a trophy salmon, and a caring and cautious boat driver, when dragging the little ones around the lake on the tube.
The lake home was Norm's happiest of places, the place where he could be found chopping, tinkering, driving quad and sunning himself on the float.
Norm was a master builder and fixer, always with a task and tools in hand, a talent and passion that he acquired as a young boy, alongside his dad and uncles. Norm was a real detail guy, who spent countless hours researching and contemplating the most efficient and effective ways to tackle a project or task, no challenge too tall. This trait also served him well in his life career as a Banker, and in working his personal investment strategies in his retirement.
In his retirement Norm busied himself with many home projects, took on the head vehicle mechanic role in the household, and even re-shingled the lake house roof in his late 60's.
Norm connected with so many people in life, he laughed often and hard, teased allot, and gave to the communities he lived in, as a long term Lions member, in both Brandon, MB and Port Alberni, BC.
Norm met his recent health challenges with the most positive and inspirational attitude, never a complaint and always ever thankful for the life he'd been granted and the extension of time he got to enjoy at the hands of modern science and the medical community.
While ever proud of the accomplishments of his children and stepchildren, nothing made Norm light up more than seeing and talking to his grandchildren (Emma and Becca Anderson and Camryn and Brooke Sweeney), whom he lovingly nicknamed.
We will miss you dearly and always carry your memories in our hearts.
The family would like to express their heartfelt thanks to the RCMP, fire, paramedic and life flight teams that attended to Norm following his quad accident.
The family would also like to recognize the wonderful teams of doctors and nurses at the Victoria General and Royal Jubilee hospitals for their care and compassion following Norm's accident, and Dr. Daryl Lund and Dr. Mathew Marsay for their long term care and friendship.
