In Loving Memory ~
The family of Norman French are saddened to announce his passing on January 21, 2022 at Stanford Place Village, Parksville, BC at the age of 98 years.
Norman is survived by: his children, Kerri, Brian (Susie), Diane (Gary); his 6 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren; his sister Edith Reger; his brother Albert French; and his sister-in-law Leona French. Norman was predeceased by his wife Peggy in 2012.
Norman was an infantryman with the Black Watch Regiment during WWII. He enlisted in 1943, initially he took army trade school but later transferred to the Black Watch Regiment when he went overseas in 1944.
Following his discharge from the army, Norman worked at various jobs, eventually becoming a train conductor for Canadian National Railway in Jasper, AB.
While in Jasper, he met his wife, Hilda Margaret (Peggy) Knutson and they were married on September 11, 1952. They spent many wonderful years in Jasper where they raised their three children.
Norman and Peggy spent their retirement years on Salt Spring Island, BC and Parksville, BC.
Following Peggy's passing, Norman resided in Stanford Place Village, Parksville, BC. There he met his special friend, Anne Staite, who was a wonderful companion and enriched his life greatly.
Norman will be remembered for his witty humour, his many war stories, his infectious smile and his love for all. He will be sadly missed by his family, friends, residents and staff of Stanford Place Village. The family would like to "Thank" the staff of Stanford Place Village for the wonderful care they have provided Norman for the past nine years.
Notice of a "Celebration of Life" will be given at a later date. Donations in Norman's name may be made to the Royal Canadian Legion Branch No. 76, 180 Veterans Way, Qualicum Beach, BC V9K 1L8
