December 1, 1928 - October 7, 2020
Nan passed away peacefully at Nanaimo Seniors Village on October 7th, 2020.
She is survived by her loving husband Jack, their children, Doug (Deborah), Carolyn (Todd), and Steve (Saki). Nan had six grandchildren, Darcie (Tim), Scott, Allison, Michelle, Emily and Kaya, and two great-grandchildren, Mari and Jack.
Nan is also survived by her sister, Peggy (Ron) and brother John and pre-deceased by her sister, Louise (Gordon). Nan will also be missed by her many nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends.
Nan was born in Vancouver and raised in Agassiz and Sidney, B.C. After receiving her teacher certification, Nan taught in Europe, Whitehorse, Stewart, Penticton, and Kimberly. She eventually settled at Departure Bay Elementary School. It was in Nanaimo that Nan met Jack, her husband of 62 years.
Nan always had a passion for travel, adventure and sport. Her passion took her to England, Europe and Russia in her younger years. Later in life, she joined a 55+ cycling group which rode throughout New Zealand and Australia, and on an 89 day - 6900 km trip across Canada. For many years, Nan was an avid member of the Nanaimo Tennis Club. She also participated in table tennis at the BC Senior Games, where she won a Gold and Silver medal.
Mom's most cherished memories were with her family, including many camping trips and summers at Lake Cowichan.
The family would like to extend their gratitude to the wonderful caregivers at Nanaimo Seniors Village for the support that they gave over the past six years.
