After a two year battle with cancer, Niki passed away leaving behind her daughters Thalia 5 and Ella 2, partner Francis Yoon, parents Rhonda and Dick Yano, in-laws Julie and Chris Yoon, sister-in-law Janice and family, and many aunts, uncles and cousins. She was predeceased by her sister Michelle and her maternal and paternal grandparents.
Niki was born in Duncan and graduated from Cowichan Secondary in 1997. While at Cowichan Niki played soccer, field hockey and rugby. She was part of two BC champion field hockey teams, but her passion would be rugby. Her and a group of friends helped organize and start the girls rugby team at Cowichan. After graduating Niki continued her education at Malaspina in Nanaimo where she played club rugby for the Nanaimo Hurricanes. She then moved to Victoria and played rugby for James Bay. Many of her friends today were part of her sporting life.
A memorial service will be held at 2:30 pm Saturday, January 4, 2020 at James Bay Athletic Association Clubhouse, 205 Simcoe Street Victoria, BC
