1937-2021 ~ The Saunders family is saddened to announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, brother and son Neville Arthur Saunders. He passed away on Friday October 8th, 2021 at his home in Courtenay, B.C.
Nev leaves to mourn his loving wife Rosemarie, sons Christopher (Doris), Daniel and Graham, brothers Robert and Stephen (Sue), sister-in-law Jutta (Ron) as well his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and countless colleagues and friends that he made over his 84 years.
He was predeceased by his parents Art and Lettie Saunders and his sister Wanda.
He was born in 1937 in Windsor, Ontario, to Art and Lettie (Hunter) Saunders. Nev developed a passion for flying airplanes at an early age having obtained his pilots license before he got his drivers license.
He joined the RCMP when he was 18-years-old in 1956 and spent his early policing career in "D" Division (Manitoba). He soon joined Air Division and started flying the single engine Beaver and eventually the Twin Otter. He flew in Manitoba, Saskatchewan and retired to Vancouver Island while flying out of 'M' Division, Whitehorse, Yukon.
Having retired at a relatively young age, he was occasionally asked if he had applied for any jobs to keep himself busy. His standard reply was always "I'm afraid to apply for a job. Somebody might give me one". That philosophy allowed him to relax and enjoy life with his beautiful bride Rosemarie.
Again, as he reflected on life after the RCMP, he insisted his main focus was to supervise Rosemarie's maintenance efforts around their stunning beachfront property in Courtenay. Not that Rosemarie needed any supervision but the response amused him.
A family and friends gathering will occur in the summer of 2022 at their Courtenay home.
