Dad was born to Olaf and Gulle Olson and was always proud to say that he lived most of his 94 years in the Lake Cowichan area. Along with his brothers Oke and George he had an idyllic childhood living by the river. After returning home from his duties in the Royal Canadian Airforce he married his childhood sweetheart June Eckert. Mum and Dad had four children Colleen (Dennis),Terry,Jody(Richard) and Becky(Stan). The family soon grew to add six grandchildren Larissa (Kirk), Ole (Nicole), Jill (Adam), Hailey (Shane), Katie, Jocie and eight great grandkids Connor, Keenan, Kaden (Mackie), Jake, Chloe, Kierce, Richard, Elise, and Dixie.

He had many occupations throughout his life but the one he loved and was most proud of was being a faller. Dad was known for his amazing work ethic and broke in several new fallers back in the day. He was a humble and kind man whose wants, and needs were always simple. Never feeling the urge to go too far or leave his home or family that he loved so much. He was a strong community minded man that belonged to several organizations throughout his life. Most will remember his and Mum's involvement with the Scandinavian Club where he was President many times. He sang and played the piano in the orchestra

for years and entertained at many dances. He played in several sports including baseball(Cougars),bowling and curling.

From 1961-1974 Dad and Mum were co-owners of the Castaway Resort. So many will have fond memories of all the fun times there with Dad playing the ukulele at the bonfire while all the campers enjoyed singing along together.

Dad was a true believer in volunteering and did so many times throughout the community by driving cancer patients to Victoria for treatments, delivering Meals on Wheels, rescuing stranded boaters on the lake and taking care of keeping the town's streets clean by collecting garbage with his trusty picker .

Our Mum passed away in 2006 and left a void in dad's life. Soon the great grandkids started to play hockey which dad took a quick interest in and so began his years of going to arenas every weekend and cheering one or more of them on at their games. He soon became known to all of the young hockey players as Papa Nels.

Our hearts are broken at the loss of our Dad.

Also left to mourn him are his brother George(Kay) and many nieces, nephews and other "kids" that he considered his grandchildren too. He was definitely well loved and respected by so many and we were proud to be able to say that he was our Dad, Papa, Father-in-Law, Brother, Uncle and friend, A hole has been left in our lives that will never be filled but we are so thankful to of been a part of this amazing man's life.

A Celebration of Life will be held at the Lake Cowichan Community Hall on October 28th at 1:00. Please bring a story or memory to share about our Dad. We know he helped to create many throughout the years.

In lieu of flowers and in spirit of how giving our Dad was, please do a Random Act of Kindness for someone today.
