April 7, 1933 - July 18, 2022
In loving memory ~
Our beloved Nancy, Grandma, GiGi, passed away on July 18, 2022 in Victoria, B.C. after a brief illness. Nancy was born in Vancouver, B.C. to Bill and Inga Lyttback and the family moved soon after to Ladysmith, B.C. where they thrived among the growing Finnish community. Her sister, Doris Anita 'Babe' was born three years later.
Nancy's childhood was spent in the idyllic seaside town where she enjoyed summer days with family and friends, picnicking and swimming at Transfer Beach, and exploring the shore at low tide. At the age of fifteen she was crowned "Logger Queen" an annual honour bestowed upon a young lady of the community, in which logging was the predominant industry at the time.
Nancy attended school in Ladysmith where she caught the eye of a handsome fellow, Kenneth Hindmarch. From that time, they were inseparable, eventually marrying and starting a family of their own, sons Rick and Dale.
Ken's career with Shell Oil brought them to many places, including Regina, Houston, Calgary, and The Hague, but in retirement they returned to Vancouver Island, settling in Qualicum Beach. Their door was always open and their warm and welcoming hospitality was legendary.
Nancy became a very important and beloved person in the lives of many, including the FitzGerald and Zurawski families. She always had a great meal and a cold beer/ wine ready for the many expected and unexpected visitors.
Her home in Qualicum Beach became the 'Happy Place' in the lives of her grandchildren and now great grandchildren.
Nancy was lovingly cared for in her last days by her son Dale and her niece Cheryl Zurawski and Ray Dean. It was a comfort to know they were there for her, and unfailing in their love and support.
Nancy is survived by her sons, Rick (Maureen) and Dale, her grandchildren, Shannon (Michael) MacDonald, Sean (Megan) Hindmarch, Brent (Whitney) Hindmarch, and by her great grandchildren, Cadha, Amara, Jackson, Brooklyn and Aubrie, and by the FitzGerald, Zurawski and Abrahams families.
Nancy was pre deceased by her parents, Bill and Inga Lyttback, her sister Doris Anita 'Babe', and her husband Ken Hindmarch.
Her legacy lives on in the lives of her family and loved ones and they will remember her when they count the falling stars and walk the beautiful beach at their Happy Place, Qualicum Beach 'Grandma's House'.
