1941-2021 ~ Muriel passed away peacefully at her home in Duncan, BC on March 1, 2021 surrounded by several of her immediate family members.
Muriel is predeceased by her husband of 30 years, Kevin Hugh McManus and survived by her brother, Roy Hughes. She will be greatly missed by her children Mark (Susan) Lakin, Dawn (Ian) van Wesenbeeck, Helen (Peter) Lakin and Sean (Sara-Lynn) McManus and by her seven grandchildren David, Kristy, Lauren, Heather, Shelby, Jack and Delainey.
Muriel was born in the village of Tunstall in Yorkshire, England to Arthur and Muriel Hughes. She immigrated with her immediate family to Canada in 1969 and lived in several Ontario communities including Collingwood, Toronto and Stouffville.
Following her success as an entrepreneur and business owner at the end of her working life, she and Kevin retired and moved to BC. They spent many happy years together in Sidney before finally moving to Duncan.
After Kevin's passing, Muriel became an active and supportive member of Duncan's seniors' community and she made many close friends with whom she loved gather to play cards, socialize and share treats.
Muriel was a loving mother, strong and kind with a generous spirit that extended to many. We used to joke that she'd have given her last nickel away and she never showed up empty handed. She was authentic and fun, loved a good laugh and a competitive game of cards. She had an ability to easily engage people and made friends wherever she went. She was a positive force for her family and friends and was always one of the first to appear whenever anyone needed a hand.
She will be missed terribly. We couldn't have loved her more.
