September 21, 1932 - March 3, 2021
It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Mona Hollands on March 3rd, 2021.
She passed gently and peacefully at Vancouver General Hospital with her family close by.
Born on September 21, 1932, to Selina and Angus Wentzell, Mona had a colourful childhood in Newfoundland as one of five Wentzell sisters.
Mona worked in a variety of jobs on the coast until she met and married her lifelong partner John Hollands.
Married in 1955, and prior to making the move to British Columbia, they had 4 children, Paul, Debbie, Elizabeth, and David.
In 1964, Mona and Jack packed up the family car, with their 4 young children, heading to the West Coast and new beginnings. Over time, Mona re-entered the workforce and established herself in the Cowichan School District. In her career she worked in many schools, with a variety of school leaders, creating a network of strong lasting friendships.
In retirement, Mona and Jack enjoyed their community of friends in Mill Bay and the Cowichan Valley. Mona continued to knit, sew, and bake but more importantly, she took joy in watching her grandchildren grow into wonderful young adults.
While Alzheimer's took Mona's memory too early for all of us, we are thankful for the wonderful love and care she received at Sunrise Senior Living in Vancouver.
Survived and celebrating in Mona's life are her husband John, her children, Paul (Maria and John), Debbie (Wayne, Nicole, David, and Carlie) Liz (Doug, Vicky, and Ebony), David (Carol, Jocelyn, and Ellis). Included in Newfoundland are Mona's sisters, Hughena and Sylvia, and related family members.
During this Covid time, we will be delaying any services of remembrance until we may celebrate in a larger community of family and friends.
In lieu of flowers, we would appreciate support for the Alzheimer's Society of BC.
