April 15, 1937 - June 29, 2024
In loving memory ~
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and aunt on June 29, 2024. Molly was born on April 15, 1937, in Trail, BC.
Molly is survived by her three children, Bruce (Kathy), Glennys, and Scott (Shelley), by her brothers, John (Megan), Sandy (Patti), and Ian (Michelle); and by her sisters, Jackie (Ernie), Midean (Jerry), Kay and Ivy (Michael), by her grandchildren Ashley (Derek), Robert (Stephanie), Stacy (Tomy), Brett, Quinn (Matt), Kyla (Brad), Amber (Nate), Blake (Hailey), and Sam (Alana), by her great-grandchildren Leah, Bradley, Keegan, Graham, Amelie, Drake, Torryn and Mia. Molly was predeceased by her loving husband Glenn, brother Jim, sister-in-law Ina and granddaughter Hayley.
Molly grew up on the family farm in Salmo.Being the oldest of nine, she worked alongside her father, doing chores before and after school. She met Glenn, the love of her life, while he was surveying for the road that eventually cut the family farm into two. Glenn's job took him to many places in BC.Their life was full of joy, spending most of their time camping and fishing every weekend. They were happiest spending time with their children and each other.
Molly was an incredible lady with many talents, including butchering game (as Glenn was an avid hunter), cooking and preserving, and making clothes. She was also the librarian at the local high school, an avid curler, and a golfer.
Sunday was baking day, and many of our friends discovered that Sunday was the best day to visit! She'd always say, go ahead, I'll make more.
Mom and Dad moved to Qualicum in 1972 and eventually bought a house in 1981, where they settled. They bought a boat (Mom was the 1st Mate) and started fishing commercially for cod.The boat (MacFive) was a place their children, grandchildren, and friends enjoyed. After the commercial fishing venture, Mom and Dad took on the concession at the Qualicum Curling Club for a number of years. Molly was known for cooking and baking, especially her incredible cinnamon buns.
As her health deteriorated, she moved to Heritage Place, an assisted-living facility in Port Alberni. She grew to love it there and made many new friends. She loved the staff, and they loved her.
Molly battled many health issues, amazingly recovering each time, although each took its toll on her.But her last battle was with cancer. Her last few days were in Ty Watson House. To say that the house was amazing is an understatement. The staff are so personal, and their loving nature is genuinely remarkable.
Many thanks to Dr. DePape and the staff at the West Coast General Hospital, Heritage Place, and Ty Watson House.
A celebration of Molly's life will be held at the Qualicum Curling Rink on Thursday, August 8th, from 1 to 4 pm.
If you wish, you can make donations in Molly's memory to Ty Watson House or the BC Cancer Society.
Molly is now reunited with Glenn - I bet they are fishing or dancing and having fun!
