October 29, 2021
In loving memory ~ It is with great sadness that the family of Mike Seggie must announce his passing on October 29th at the young age of 76.
Mike was a robust outdoorsman, a hard worker and a strong man, but recently cancer hit him like a rogue wave, knocking his legs out from under him, and though he tried with all his might he couldn't recover. He was a force to be reckoned with and he called the shots, doing things his way and staying home as long as he could with the help of his family. Mike was never a man for lingering goodbyes, leaving most family events with a wave and a "Seeya Later", boots already on and feet moving out the door. He kept true to form in the end, exiting this life quickly and quietly when no one was looking.
Mike was predeceased by his wife Reet in May of 2019, and he missed her greatly. He leaves behind his daughter Nadine Duesterwald and son-in-law Brian Duesterwald, his son Mark Seggie and daughter-in-law Krista Seggie, his grandchildren Connor Duesterwald (Brooke), Ciara Duesterwald (Brayden), Nigel Seggie (Ainsley), Rosalie Seggie and Nina Seggie, "extra" grand-daughter Tamsyn Grubac (Cory) and their children. Mike was very proud of all his kids and grandkids.
Mike is also survived by his brother George Seggie and many nieces and nephews, and his beloved dog Cindy.
Mike worked hard his whole life and took pride in a job well done. He spent many years as a Commercial Fisherman operating his boat the Island Star III, as well as many years as a professional truck driver, driving for Doman in the early years, then driving logging trucks for a number of different companies as well as owning and operating his own logging truck. Mike was still hauling logs (throwing his own wrappers and hauling more loads per day than anyone else on that haul) but took some time off after the passing of his wife.
Mike was a passionate and accomplished fisherman; he had a lifelong love of the sport. His most prized possessions were his fly rods and reels; he tied his own flies and followed the seasonal runs of fish up and down the island for many years, having great adventures and making friends everywhere he went.
Mike was also a formidable pool and snooker player and enjoyed many tournaments with his buddies.
