November 8, 1933 - October 24, 2020
With great sadness, the family of Mike Mohan announce his peaceful passing at North Island Hospital Comox Valley on Saturday October 24, 2020.
Survived by his loving wife of 53 years Lilian Mohan, son Brendan and Heather Mohan, grandchildren Aidan and Abigail. Mike is survived by his two sisters, Molly McConkey, and Patricia Taylor; his sister-in-law Kathe Leduc, brother-in-law and sister-in-law Denis and Barb Owen and many nieces, nephews and extended family.
Mike was born in Toronto to parents Peter and Anne, the youngest son of 10 children and grew up in Forest Hill, Ontario. Mike met Lil in 1964 and they married in 1967 living in Toronto until they moved to Ellerslie Ave. where they raised Brendan their only son.
Mike worked as a teacher for many years in the Catholic system eventually retiring as a Vice Principal after a 30 plus year career. Never one to sit around, after his retirement he took a job as a groundskeeper and night watchman at the local cemetery. Those seven years provided for many great stories and much entertainment.
Mike had never been to BC but he and Lil packed up their home and made the move to Comox in October 1997 to be closer to Brendan and family.
Mike spent the next 23 years building friendships, travelling, spending time with family, gardening and enjoying some of the remote sights of Vancouver Island. Mike will always be remembered for his helping hand, kind heart and great sense of humour.
The family wishes to thank Dr. Doug Anderson, the nurses and staff on 3A at the North Island Hospital for the care and compassion they provided in his final days. A special thanks for Jean Fowlie for going above and beyond to assist both Mike and Lil. Thank you to Toneff Funeral Services for their preparations and care.
A Funeral Service was held on Monday November 2nd at the Christ the King Roman Catholic Church. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Christ the King Church or to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
