With heavy hearts, his children announce that Melrose (Mel) Edward Lawrence sadly passed peacefully in his home on August 24th, 2018. He is survived by his partner of the last fifteen years, Adelaide Johnson, and his eight children, Christine, Gary, Michael (Cindy), Glen (Karen), Carol (Darrell), Dawn, Elizabeth, Kathleen (Nick). Mel was a loving grandfather to his sixteen grandchildren, and thirteen great-grandchildren.
Mel was fortunate to have the loving companionship of his older sister and brother in-law, Verna and Rod McKerlich, for all of his life. He had many friendships through his employment at Harmac, his days on the water living on his boat, and travels south in the winter months. He was a real outdoorsman, his knowledge from living on the west coast was extensive, and he had a keen interest in other cultures and travel. Mel had a sense of humour, and was known to tease those he loved the most, even if it meant popping out his dentures at the dinner table to his grandchildren. He loved and valued his family more than anything.
Mel will be deeply missed by his family and friends, but he will be impossible to forget for all of his antics and stories.
A small celebration of life will be held for Mel on Saturday, September 8th between 1:00pm – 3:30pm at Sands Funeral Chapel and Reception Centre, 1 Newcastle Avenue, Nanaimo, BC.
