It is with deep sadness that we share with you the passing of Maureen Lloy Nelson, our beautiful mother, sister, grandmother and friend.

Maureen was born in Westlock, Alberta on May 1st 1949. She grew up in Clyde, had her family in Edmonton, and settled in the Cowichan Valley in 1990.

She was an artist, a writer and an educator, bringing her love of writing and art to everything she did. She was a teacher for over 30 years in Westlock, Edmonton, Duncan and Parksville Waldorf schools. She wrote seven books of poetry and was an avid painter, felter and photographer. Her beautiful art lives on at the Sunrise Waldorf School that she painted in 2015, and numerous murals painted around town.

She passed peacefully in her home the morning of December 8th in the Cowichan Valley, surrounded by her loving family, including her daughters, her sister and her partner.

She leaves behind her sisters: Vicki Henderson and Deidre Brower-Berkhoven (Isaac); her daughters and their spouses: Skye Wylie, Lloy Wylie, Christopher Isocki and Gabriel Haythornthwaite; grandchildren: Sophia, Erich, Autumn, Celia and Forrest, honourary niece-daughter Shelley Cassada (Jarod), numerous beloved nieces, newphews, and cousins throughout Alberta, and her loving partner of 19 years, George Weeks, along with his daughters, Georgie (Brad), Amanda and grandchildren Harriet (Andrew), Casey and Elijah.

Cowichan home care support, Cowichan Hospice, home care nursing, and Dr. Valerie Masuda provided excellent and loving care for Maureen which allowed her to stay in her own home.

We felt blessed and eternally grateful.  Special thanks to Amanda, Darlene, Jodi, Terri and Kelly with whom Maureen felt a strong bond.

An intimate anthroposophical ceremony was held immediately following her death, and a memorial service will be held in Clyde, Alberta in July 2018 with interment near her family at Dungannon cemetery.

We already miss her dearly. Rest in peace, beautiful spirit.
