With great regret and sorrow we announce the sudden passing of our mum Maureen Randell on July 18, 2018.
She is survived by her daughters Carolyn (Mike, Emily) and Sue, sisters Theresa (Ron, Ken, Brian) and Kathy (Bill, Patty, Barb, Sandra, Mike) and a wide circle of friends and family. She also leaves behind her constant canine companions Rupert and Pauline, as well as the extended dog family.
Mum was a Victoria girl, who met and married our dad Bob when he was here with the navy. She was the quintessential homemaker while we were young – volunteered for everything from school librarian to Girl Guides. When we kids were old enough she went to nursing school at the Royal Jubilee and achieved her dream of becoming a nurse, focusing on work in the emergency department. It’s comforting to know that on her last day she encountered past friends and coworkers and knew she was in their best care.
Mum inspired us with her willingness to take on new challenges always – jobs, houses, groups, hobbies – she had a wide social network of friends and was devoted to both them and us. She was inspiring in so many ways – always so interested in the little details of everyone’s lives – you always felt valued after a visit because you knew she was checking up on you and was on top of things. She was a devoted Canuck fan and we can only hope that she is working her magic in the wings to make the changes she wanted to see – sorry Trevor, consider yourself expendable…
We will miss so many things about mum – especially her enthusiasm for life and sense of wonder and appreciation for the little moments and things that brought her joy. We will do our best to keep that spirit alive, and keep up with the Canucks re-building efforts.
Please join us in celebrating Maureen’s life on Saturday August 11th, from 1-4 pm at Arbutus Ridge Golf Club in Cobble Hill, BC.
